June 2009 - Catwalk Coaching/Grooming for Deaf Models for RC Deaf Missions Malaysia

A small group of Deaf model wannabees for RC Deaf Missions is undergoing some catwalk coaching and grooming under the guidance of Simone Teh of Simones Models. These Deaf Models will go on the catwalk for some of the Missions catwalk events in the future.
What’s the story behind this effort you may ask? The Mission wanted to give an opportunity to the Deaf to do something different which would enhance their self confidence. They will be exposed to some rigid traing and learn what a professional model would need to go through. So we very honoured to have Simone Teh (a renowned ex Malaysian Model), networking with the Mission to provide coaching and guidance. This is a short term project. Simone Teh owns and manages Simones Models, and is one of the top modelling agencies in Malaysia.
Above (clad in yellow blouse) is Simone Teh in a networking meeting with Agnes Peter, Co-Founder of the Mission, and with Yvonne Paul (right in left picture) interpreting for the networking session with the Deaf. More pictures below of the Deaf in discussion with Simone Teh.
Folks, stay tuned for our future catwalk events featuring the Deaf Models of RC Deaf Missions Malaysia. More photos to come. Two Deaf members with the Mission - Lois Tham Sy Lianq and Noordin Hassan (Dino) are co-managing this effort.

Skill Enhancement Workshops for Sign Language Interpreters is one of RC Deaf Missions’ objectives. In May 2009, we engaged Anne Laura Raymond (or Loula as she is fondly known to friends and colleagues), a Deaf Presenter/Facilitator, to present a workshop on Understanding Deaf Grammar. Below : Anne Laura Raymond presenting the workshop.
By way of background, the Mission has also hired Anne Laura part time as SL Curriculum Coordinator, and as a Deaf Sign Language Instructor. Anne Laura has Certification in BIM, and Certification in teaching BIM (MySL) (Malaysian Sign Language/Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia). Not only has she completed all of her necessary BIM (MySL) modules, she has also played an important role in the evaluation and assessment of sign language students on grammar knowledge. Anne Laura was also heavily involved in producing illustrations for some of the Sign Resource Books. Among them include Signs of Sexuality, and BIM 1 and 2 book projects). We share with you some pics of the May workshop. In the May workshop, she was able to help the participants distinguish the differences between MySL, Kod Tangan and Signed Exact English. Anne Laura Raymond is a fine Deaf Instructor and Presenter, able to turn complication to practicality. Below are photos of the session in progress and participants applying what she presented.
