Apr 2009 - Feedback from our Sign Language Students who will be graduating this month

23

April

The Sign Language Students of the Feb 21 - Apr 25 intake will be graduating this Saturday Apr 26. As the Course comes to a close, with the beginning of a new chapter, we would like to share with you some feedback from the students of their experiences of the classes and the Deaf Tutors (Anne Raymond “Loula”, and Noordin Hassan “Dino”) we engaged to conduct the Course. We hope that by sharing the feedback with you, it will encourage many more hearing people out there to come and learn the language to communicate with the Deaf.

“I personally think that learning sign language is very interesting. Loula teaches us sign language in a fun and interesting way making it easier to follow up.” Stanley Ho

“I would say it has been a really enjoyable time attending Dino’s classes. He has a really good sense of humour! He expresses himself very well and I’m surprised of myself for being able to understand and communicate well with him too. Besides that, i appreciate him for being helpful in answering most of my ‘out-of-curiosity’ questions through out the classes. Looking forward to get around and get to know more.” Kuan

“I still find it quite amusing and useful, in the very beginning, when I first attended class, I quickly learned something…in school when my teachers were conduncting a class, we normally take down notes while the teacher continues teachering, we won’t miss out on the lesson. Whereas in class, when I wasn’t looking at Loula, I might miss out something…therefore I’ve learned to focus more on Loula when class in being conducted. I enjoy being in class, as sign language is a very new thing to me. I even taught my brother a few simple signs as he is now suffering from a severe sore throat. He even find it quite useful…instead of writing to me on a piece of paper. I find the sign class very useful and I hope in the future I would get more exposure as well.” Audrey Liew

“I am really having a good time with the course..a new experience for me..Before this i only see from far how the deaf people communicate..now im learning the sign language n its not an easy task..its a kind of art…:) Dino did a wonderful job in teaching us the sign language..for each of the sign he will explain why we use the sign..it makes us easy to remember. I always wish to make friends with the deaf people…and i hope i can make one during the dinner…. Thank you for introducing this course and hope we can have the advance
class for the sign language course…”R.Sujatha

“I find the class interesting so far, and Dino is a great teacher. He incorporates humour and his personal stories into the lessons and I think that works as far as experiential teaching is concern. I think this way, we actually pick up more than usual.  I haven’t had the time to try out my sign language skills as of yet, but I am quite confident that with practice and when real life situation presents itself, I will be able to understand and communicate quite effectively, albeit slowly.”  Grey

“The class has open up my eyes to other ways of expressing myself without speaking. im glad i signed up for the class. i look forward now to mingle and make friends with the deaf so that i can practice what i’ve learn from the class and of course learn more words. To me the Deaf are very special people because they speak in silence. i believe their sense of expressing thoughts and opinions are more deep and meaningful as oppose to myself with just talking. Thank you for conducting the classes. i hope this class will continue to educate others about speaking without talking.” Norazlin
