Mar 1, 2009 Coffee Chat on Forming a Network of Freelance Interpreters under the Mission

About 6 Sign Language interpreters, comprising Deaf and Hearing interpreters, from different backgrounds and settings, and 1 interpreter wannabe came together at the RC Deaf Mission’s invitation to a coffee chat on the idea of Forming a Network of Freelance Sign Language Interpreters to work with the Mission to provide interpreting services. Some interesting ideas emerged from the coffee chat. The Mission’s objectives include interpreter services, and skill enhancement workshops for freelancers who want to upgrade their skill level. In sharing their experiences, it is very inspiring to see the richness of experiences in their respective backgrounds and settings working with the Deaf in different settings. Compensation benefits were also covered in this coffee chat. Whether senior or junior in tenure, there is always something to learn from the rich exchange of those experiences and opinions.

Annie has just been appointed by the Mission to oversee the stock check and quality control on our printed Deaf Art products, particularly the greeting cards. Feb 21, 2009 - Our Sign Language Classes have commenced

Here are some pictures to share of Loula and Dino conducting the sign language classes. Our classes commenced on 21st Feb 2009 and will end on 25th April 2009. We are beginning to receive more requests for classes, and further details will be in our website in due course. In the latter part of this year, we will be launching Level 2 classes. Stay tuned for more information.

The classes are being held at the SAITO College, Section 52, PJ New Town Centre, Selangor, MALAYSIA. The Mission is very happy to be collaborating with SAITO College.
