On Sun Jan 18, 2009, the 10 Deaf Artists who were featured in the 2008 Deaf Art collection - 2009 Deaf Art Calendar, Hari Raya Cards, Deepavali Cards and Christmas Cards - gathered at RC Deaf Missions to receive their royalty awards for such excellent contributions to the projects. Below is a group photo with the Agnes and Mario, Co-Founders of the Mission. It was an evening to remember.

Some want to stay on to take on more challenging pieces. Whatever their plans, we hope that the Mission house will be a place where they retain fond memories, grow, mentor, and where Deaf leadership will be cultivated.

RC Deaf Missions - in the eyes of a Deaf Artist

This is a batik painting by Lim Anuar. (Lim Anuar is Deaf Art Consultant for RC Deaf Missions Malaysia. He is attached to the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and Innovation as Art Director).
The Mission is like this Bird House. It is on a strong wooden pillar. When there is a Bird House, birds will naturally come to occupy it. They will lay their eggs, nest there, bring up their little babies. When the babies are grown and the time is right, they will fly away.
The birds may return one day and the same cycle of events will happen again. Birds will keep coming to the Bird House, old and new ones. Some will rest a while, and find comfort, but only a short while. But some may not return.
What does this all mean? The birds are the Deaf. The strong pillar holding the Bird House is Mario and Agnes, the Co-Founders of the Mission. The Mission will be a place where the Deaf can learn, grow in knowledge, be mentored, develop, get trained and live in this world with a positve view of themselves, and courage to face challenges. Deaf mentor the Deaf. Juniors will learn from the seniors. And the feeling of being liberated and free is so powerful. The birds that come back will be those Deaf who have received growth and independence through the Mission, and they will bring other new Deaf to be moulded and developed. Deaf mentoring the Deaf. Thank you Lim Anuar for so beautifully potraying in this painting, what RC Deaf Missions is.
